India Post — Connecting Every Corner of India Since 1854
India Post is the government-operated postal service of India, administered by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
History of India Post
India Post traces its roots back centuries. Long before modern infrastructure, messages were carried by foot messengers and carrier pigeons. The British East India Company formalised postal routes in Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta in the 18th century.
The year 1854 was the turning point — a unified, nationwide postal system was introduced under the Government of India, giving birth to India Post as we know it today. Since then it has grown into the largest postal network on the planet.
